Although the Coronavirus pandemic has forced all schools in Uganda to be closed and compelled all students to return home, African Bible University students will nevertheless continue with their studies. They will be learning from home through the online Google Classroom.

"God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. That is his nature."

MESSAGE FROM THE AFRICAN BIBLE UNIVERSITY
VICE-CHANCELLOR

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has taken the world by surprise. But mark this well: Our God is not surprised! He who created the heavens and the earth holds his world in the palm of his hands. Nothing happens without his knowledge and purpose; not even a pandemic such as this.

As directed by our President, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, African Bible University will be closing on Friday, 20 March, 2020 for a period of 32 days. We request that all students vacate the premises in compliance with this directive and transfer their learning to the e-platforms provided.

We know not how the Lord will resolve this crisis. But he will, in his time and according to his purpose. The Lord is sovereign over all, and he is good over all. One of the very first things I heard from my African friends when I came to Uganda in 2003 was, “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. That is his nature.” It is time to put that faith to work!

Like the Israelites of old who faced calamity, the question for us is this: Will we trust in the Lord? Moses’ directive to Joshua so long ago directs us today: "It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed" (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Your ABU leadership team loves you and wants the very best for you in these uncertain times. We are in uncharted waters and must navigate as we go. Please bear with us. Our first concern focuses on your continued good health. Secondly, we commit to providing you the very best education we can under the circumstances. Please know that, while I cannot be with you physically, I am in daily touch with your administration and with our Chancellor, Dr. Paul Chinchen. I have every confidence that ABU’s leadership will do their very best for you, our beloved students and family.

This is a time for true Christianity to shine forth before a watching world. Will we love one another as Jesus taught us? Cheri and I came to ABU twelve years ago because our university trains servant leaders for Christ. Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many.” Brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, if ever there were a time for servant leadership, it is now! Let us humble ourselves and serve one another.

Together, with the Lord leading us, we will get through this, learning the lessons the Lord has for us. Soli Deo Gloria!

Because God is redeeming a people for Himself,
Dr. Timothy K. Hoke
